Obituary of Bernard L. Travis
Bernard Lavern Travis, 74, of Montour Falls, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2020. He was born in Penn Yan on October 26, 1945, the son of Lloyd and Theresa Travis. Theresa died a few years later. Lloyd later married Zadie. Bernard is survived by his beautiful wife, Inga; brother, Lloyd (and Sandy) Travis; daughter, Brenda (and Carmine) Calabria; son, Michael (and Tina) Travis; daughter Tonya (and Dusty Shelton); and step-daughter Deona (and Bob) Muller. Bernie and Inga have 24 grand and great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Bernie is pre-deceased by his parents, brother Donald and, wife, Barb and, son, Troy.
Bernie was a Veteran and proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1963 to 1965.
Bernie's children were raised on what they call, Old McDonald's Farm. He had every animal at some point. A few of everything scattered here and there. He raised his children knowing the value of hard work, the value of earning your own money and unconditional love.
Bernie loved children. He had an incredible way with them. He saw no blood lines – just family. And every kid that he ever met, learned that he lost his finger to the Indians. He took so much pride in being Papa Bernie. He knew everyone's birthday. His favorite thing was to play with the kids and, especially, when he could put them up on the horses.
Horses were his other love. In his 20s, Dad rode in the Double EE Ranch Rodeo in Pennsylvania. He competed in the calf roping and the barrel race. He even tried the bucking bronco once.
Bernie would never pass up a good cup of coffee, a horse ride or an old western. And never ever pass up the opportunity to tell a joke or a great story. Or to sing RINGO at every family reunion.
There will be a celebration of life in honor of Bernard to be announced at a later date.
