Obituary of Ruth Costley
Surrounded by Love and God's presence and peace, Ruth Costley, age 70, of Watkins Glen went home to the Lord on June 13, 2012. She is survived by her beloved husband Keith of 47 years, cherished daughter Kathy Costley-Sakona (Dean) of Bellefonte, PA, ten treasured grandchildren- Jordan Costley of Elmira, NY, Ashlyn Sakona of Philadelphia, PA, Shalia Sakona of Boston, MA, Tiana Sakona of Chicago, IL, Elara Sakona, Katicia Sakona, Daniel Sakona, Aria Sakona, Garrett Sakona and Myrlanda Sakona all of Bellefonte, PA. She is also survived by sisters Margaret Bauman (Oakley), Elsie Cole (Jack), Marie Settino (Clayton), Irene Rice (Steve), Martha Hunter (Bruce) and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. She is predeceased by her precious and deeply loved younger daughter Peggy Costley, parents Harold Pound and Beatrice Pound Demott, and brothers Harold Pound and Carl Pound.
Ruth was born November 5, 1941 and grew up as one of eight children in Odessa, NY. She was married October 12, 1963. She worked for Glen National Bank, Watkins Glen Grand Prix Association and was secretary to the Director of Media Services at Cornell University for many years.
Ruth was a talented seamstress and gardener, who loved creating beautiful cards with her friends, and who lived for her children and grandchildren. Her generous and loving heart earned her the nickname "Santa Ruth" from those whose lives she touched any time she saw a need- emotional or material. She leaves a lasting legacy of love behind.
Friends and relatives are invited to call Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Vedder & Scott Funeral Home, Genesee Street, Montour Falls. Calling hours will be held from one to three o'clock with a service celebrating her life to follow, the Reverend Judy White officiating.
Ruth's family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and dialysis staff at Sayre, Arnot Ogden and Schuyler Hospitals for their dedicated and compassionate care and support throughout her long and courageous fight. You truly are angels on earth in the work you do each and every day.
