Obituary of Maurice Lovell
Lovell, Maurice A., age 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon November 9, 2011. He was born in Catharine, NY the eldest son of Archie and Winifred Lovell. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1935 and married the love of his life, Lucile "Pinky" Lovell in 1939. He was a Navy cook attached to the Sea Bees during WW II and saw service in the Pacific, including the battle for Okinawa. He was a lumberman for most of his life, retiring from Wickes Lumber Company as a manager. Mr. Lovell was a lifetime member of the Catharine United Methodist Church. He is survived by his brother Melvin (Sharon) Lovell of Waverly, NY, his sons Martin A. (Gail) Lovell and Jeffrey G. (Nancy) Lovell, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by three sisters. He enjoyed music from the age of 13 when he began playing a half sized fiddle at local dances. In his young adulthood, he played Dixieland tenor banjo professionally. In later years he concentrated primarily on the Bluegrass mandolin. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Odessa United Methodist Church, Church St., Odessa, NY on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM. His funeral service will be held there following visitation at 12:30 PM. The Rev. Sheila Price will officiate. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, Catharine, NY. Arrangements are under the direction of Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, Montour Falls, NY.
