Obituary of Denis J. Redmond

Denis J. Redmond, also known as "Denny or Sonny" passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2019. He was born and raised in Ozone Park, Queens, NYC, on September 7, 1932. He served in the US Army during the 1950's, both active and in the reserves. Denny married Margaret Scowcroft in September of 1952 and they settled in Hamilton Beach, Queens, raising five children. During this time, he had various truck driving jobs. He finally settled in with United Parcel Service where his father worked for many years. In 1967, the family moved to Odessa, NY. Denny got a truck driving job with Seneca Foods in Dundee, NY. The family also operated a restaurant in Odessa for three years. Denny also worked part time as a school bus driver. He retired from Seneca Foods in August of 1999 and spent his retirement years enjoying life with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also helped his former spouse, Marge, take care of her extensive property along with his son-in-law, George Pyhtila. Denny was predeceased by his parents, Denis Jr. and Norma, his sisters, Veronica and Louise, and his son, James Patrick. He leaves behind his brother, Jim (Jan) Redmond; his former spouse, Marge Mann; his daughters, Margaret (Ron) Havens and Jane (George) Pyhtila; and sons, Denis and John Redmond. Denny also had six grandchildren including Matthew Redmond who followed in his beloved grandfather's footsteps by becoming a truck driver. Denny also leaves behind four great grandchildren, including "The Girls" Kacie and Kendall Colunio, and also his latest great grandchild, Liam James, who was born on February 22nd of this year. He also leaves behind an extensive group of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, please send a mass card from the Catholic Church in care of Jane Pyhtila, 111 Montour St., Montour Falls, NY 14865. We would like to thank everyone for their kindness and prayers at this sad time. And thank you Dad, Grampa, Pop for everything you've done for us all!! God Bless You!!
