Obituary of Charles D. Ackley

Charles Donald Ackley, Sr., 87, of Burdett, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2017 at Schuyler Hospital. He was born on May 12, 1930, the son of the late Arley and Grace (Clark) Ackley. He married Lillian E. Litteer on December 2, 1950. She passed away on July 14, 2014. Charles retired from Cargill after 33 years of service. He loved to play music with his son Chuck. He enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting, and loved to take his daily walk to the H&E to see all of his friends. He is survived by his six children, Charlene (Albert) Root, Kathleen Leff, Darlene (Richard) Jaynes, Eileen (Rick) Dean, Charles (Jan) Ackley, and Marlene (William) McMinds; eleven grandchildren; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Donald Litteer; sisters-in-law, Avis Litteer and Sadie Wheeler. He was predeceased by his great grandson, Nathan Welch; son-in-law, William Leff; brothers in law, Andrew Barrett, Robert Litteer and Skip Litteer; and sisters in law, Emma Barrett and Virginia Litteer. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 from 12-2 pm at Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 pm followed by burial in Beaver Dams Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Burdett Fire Department. The family would also like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Schuyler Hospital for the care given to Charles.
