I was just informed of the unfortunate passing of one of our best neighbors Butch Searles.

Butch was a great man and was always helpful to our family. Being a small farm ourselves we sometimes called on Butchb for help and he was always there for us.

I remember as a child Butch had a red Massey-Ferguson snowmobile. He used to ride down to see my dad every so often.

Before Butch owned the property Mrs. Stotz (?) owned the property and the neighbor kids (Rick Searles, Robby Searles (No relation?) my brother David and myself) we playing in the barn and we went in the barn and down a ladder. We went to leave and the ladder was gone and the trap door closed! Mrs. Stotz met us with a shotgun in hand pointing at us. We never went in the barn again.

After this George and Clide Okley bought it. They grew to be great friends with Butch and when the Okleys were ready tinsel Butch bought it for his family.

Couldn't have had a better neighbor and Butch will be missed by many.

This is such a shock because I just saw and spoke with him a few days ago as he shopped where I work.

Wish I could have spent more time chatting with him, as I had not seen him in some time.

We spent a number of years participating in the NYS Sporter Rifle League. Oh, the fun and laughter we all enjoyed!

He was instrumental in my efforts to also become a NYS Hunter Safety Instructor.

I always viewed him as a mentor and dear friend.

My most heartfelt condolences to the family.

I will be there for all of you.
