Jean Pike

Obituary of Jean L. Pike

Jean L. Pike, 78, of Burdett, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 15, 2017 at home after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Montour Falls, on May 6, 1939, the daughter of Edwin E. and Lara B. (Crippen) Voorheis. Jean was a lover of all nature related things. When she wasn't working as a cook, she could be found in her abundant flower beds, planting, weeding, watering, and trimming. She will be remembered for her vast knowledge and love for her birds as well. Jean worked 24 years as a cook for Schuyler Hospital. She also cooked at Wildflower Café and Elcor. She was a member of the Seneca Chiefs Motorcycle Club, and could be found many weekends on the back of the bike in her chaps and boots! She was a member of the Reynoldsville United Methodist Church, and had a close, personal relationship with her Lord. When she wasn't busy (which was rare) with her array of hobbies, she could be found curled up in her chair or in her spot at the kitchen table with a good book, or writing in her journal. All of which were only seconded to her love of her large family and extended family. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, William C. Pike on December 15, 1999; granddaughters, Holly Claire and Brandy Simmons; son-in-law, Harry "Ted" Landon, and companion, Gene Robertson. Jean is survived by her children, Debra Grow, Laurie Landon, Hank (Patsy) Simmons, Bruce (Kelly)Simmons, Glen Simmons and Ted Simmons; grandchildren, Gary (Margaret) Tuttle, Matt (Lydia) Simmons, Greg (Heidi) Tuttle, Russell (Michelle) Simmons, Chad Simmons, Gretta (Christopher) Zafonte, Joylin (Russel) Simmons, James (Harley) Simmons, Hannah Brand, Kaiya Brand, Sammy Ventra, Hank Simmons, Sarah Simmons, Breanna Ventra, Cassandra LaRow, Ashley and Jessie Tamberelli Simmons, and Desirea Rodriguos; great grandchildren, Jessie Smith, Courtney, Brittany, Jordan, Casey Tuttle, Haleigh Porter, Harmonei and Stella Zafonte, Jared, Kaylea and Leilani Kay Simmons, Lexi and Bryson Simmons, Garrett Tennant, Bentley Whitelaw, Brennan Simmons, Laurie Jean Tuttle, Sky, Anthony, Christopher, Dillon and Zerina Tamburelli, Sawyer Mae; as well as her siblings, Ted (Onolea) Herforth, Ed "Buck" (Jean) Voorheis, James Voorheis, Gale (Adolf) Mazourek, Roland (Linda) Voorheis, Carol Osborne, and Linda Rodabaugh and her faithful dog, Jack.
