Obituary of Bernadette Veney

Bernadette (Hasty) Veney, 54, of Belle Cornell Drive, Montour Falls, NY passed away on March 8, 2017. She was born in Long Island, NY on July 22, 1962, the daughter of Bennett Rudolf Everette and the late Aza Lee Everette. She graduated from Wyandanch High School, Class of 1980. She married Robert Veney Jr. on September 21, 1987. She relocated to Ithaca, NY in 1992 when she began working for the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) at Lansing Residential Center until she retired in 2016. Known to most as Bernie, she was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Her greatest joy was her family and her friends. Those who knew her, knew her best by her bright smile, infectious laugh, friendly and happy personality and of course her down home cooking! Her best friends were not just best friends, they were her sisters! The bond that she created with each and every person she met was insurmountable. Bernie was predeceased by her mother Aza Lee Everette and her granddaughter Leah Rose McCoy. Bernie is survived by her three daughters, Sheena Marie Veney (Christopher Montalvo), Ashley Ann Veney (Chaio Slater) and Jasmine Corey (Mark) McCoy; her grandchildren whom she adored more than anything in this world, Aaron Robert McCoy, Mya Rose McCoy, and Zion Alexander Veney; her siblings Ronnie (Kim) Hasty, Rosemary (Ronald) Fulcher, Sandra (Timothy) Simpson, Felicia (William) Griffin, Bennett (Shawnee) Everette and Monique Everette (Pedro Luna); her father Bennett Rudolf Everette and several nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends including her children's best friends who were more like Bernie's family than anything else. We love you Mema! Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday, March 12, 2017 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee Street, Montour Falls. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm followed by the interment at Lakeview Cemetery in Watkins Glen. A Celebration of Life reception will be held in Ithaca, NY on Sunday afternoon.
