Obituary of Bernard J. Obremski

Bernard John Obremski, 71, of Montour Falls, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at his home. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA on April 13, 1945, the son of the late Edmund John and Helen Obremski. Bernie graduated from high school in Kingston, PA, and later graduated from Pennsylvania Hospital All School of Nursing for Men and became a registered nurse. He served with the US Army as a Med Surg Nurse during the Vietnam War, and retired as a Captain. Bernie was Health Nurse Administrator at Southport Correctional Facility and Elmira Correctional Facility for 32 years, before retiring in 2001. He was a communicant of St. Mary's of the Lake Church in Watkins Glen, a member of the Elks Lodge #1546, Montour Moose Lodge #426, the Mechanics Club, and the VFW. Bernie was a very devoted man to his daughter and four beautiful grandchildren. He was a constant role model to his family, and taught by example. He showed them how miraculous it is to aid a person and help them rise to their highest self. He made it a point to speak to his family daily, all while living his own life to his grandest, and golfing whenever possible. Bernie also had an immense network of friends, who gathered under the best of times, and times like we are experiencing currently. He was predeceased by his parents, Edmund J. Obremski in 1968, Helen Obremski in 1973, and a sister, Rosalie Obremski Chebalo in 2003. Bernie is survived by his daughter, Jennifer L. Cruz-Tappan and her husband Bruce James Tappan of Watkins Glen; four grandchildren, Bryce D. De La Osa Cruz, Lelend B. Tappan, Soleil I. Tappan, and Xanthe L. Tappan; his ex-wife and friend, Mary Jane Obremski; brother-in-law, James Chebalo of Wilkes-Barre, PA; niece, Tracey (Patrick) Brady; and nephew Jimmy (Kim) Chebalo. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, March 6, 2017 from 9-11 am at St. Mary's of the Lake Church, 905 N. Decatur St., Watkins Glen. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am.
