Obituary of Charles Hayes

Charles Andrew Hayes, 82, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at his home on Hayes Rd. in Montour Falls after battling cancer. He was born in Montour Falls on January 31, 1934, the son of the late Alpheus and Charlotte (Stamp) Hayes. He graduated from Odessa-Montour High School and went on to serve with the US Navy. He married the former Ruth Evans on October 27, 1956 in Montour Falls. Charles retired as a machinist from Shephard-Niles, and was a farmer for many years. He also was an ABS technician. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Montour Falls, the Mechanics Club, and the Montour Falls Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth; daughter, Susan K. Hayes (R. Douglas Miles) of Himrod; sons, Stephen C. Hayes of Montour Falls, Michael L. Hayes (Patricia) of Watkins Glen, and Thomas J. Hayes of Montour Falls; two sisters, Doris (Sam) Fazzary of Watkins Glen and Helen Brodock of Lee Center; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Ronald G. Hayes. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, November 25, 2016 from 11-1 pm at the United Methodist Church of Montour Falls, 128 Owego St., Montour Falls. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm followed by burial with military honors at Montour Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Montour Falls, P.O.
