Obituary of Bernard Youngs
Bernard E. Youngs, 66, of Montour Falls, passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility. Bernard was born on March 3, 1949 in Corning, NY the son of Waldo C. Youngs and Lucille A. Youngs. He married his best friend and love of his life on November 26, 1969. Bernard was employed by Shepard Niles as a machinist until he retired. Bernard was a dedicated employee who worked even when he had to have leg braces to help him stand. He enjoyed everyone that he worked with. Bernard also did many things through the years at times having more than one job through the years. He worked cleaning the Village Marina, Village Hall, Chemung Canal Trust Company, Village Library and delivering newspapers. He also volunteered his time when he lived in Elmira at St. Joseph's Hospital. Upon moving back to Montour he volunteered at The Falls Home having coffee and playing cards and other games with the residents, and at Schuyler Nursing Facility playing games and making things to give out. He was loved by many, and always knew how to put a smile on the faces of others. He enjoyed coffee on Mondays with his brother Lewis Youngs and Roger Smalley.
Bernard was predeceased by his wife of 38 years Nancy S. Youngs; father Waldo C. Youngs; and brother Waldo L. Youngs. He is survived by his daughter, Melissa S. Youngs (Mike Putney), daughter that he picked up along the way and loved Jessica (Howard) Ellis, grandchildren Brenden Wood, Kara Wood, and Hannah Ellis; his mother, Lucille Youngs; brother, Lewis (Sherri) Youngs; sister in law, Dawn Youngs; brother in laws, Patricia (Mark) Derr, Darold (Patricia) Mattison, Stanley Mattison, Marilyn (James) Poust, Bonnie (James) Haight, Gail (Jeff) Twist, Janet (Ira) Stiles, Beth (Gary) Stratton, Harold Mattison Jr.; along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls, on Sunday, February 7, 2016 from 2pm- 3pm. His funeral service will be held following visitation at 3pm.
