Obituary of Charles Richards

Charles A. Richards, 92, of Odessa, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility after a short illness. He was born in Alpine on March 26, 1922, the son of the late Jesse and Lillian (Angell) Richards. Charles graduated from Odessa High School and Cornell University. He and his brother Rexford owned and operated a dairy farm in Alpine for many years. He was also a longtime bus driver for Odessa-Montour School and enjoyed meeting the students as adults. Mr. Richards was a member of the Odessa Baptist Church, Odessa Fire Department, charter member of the Schuyler County Ambulance and a past member of the Watkins Rotary. In his later years, he enjoyed the friendship of his high school classmates and took several trips with them. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years Alyce Richards, two sons, Larry and Bruce Richards, a sister, Helen Morse, and his brother, Rexford Richards. Charles is survived by his daughter, Carol Limner of Ovid; daughters-in-law, Sonia Richards of Texas and Sherry Richards of Alpine; sister-in-law, Jan Richards of Watkins Glen; ten grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and close friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, December 12, from 3-6 pm at Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 13, at 11:00 am at the funeral home followed by burial in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
