William "Jim" Bannister
William J. "Jim" Bannister, 77, Hernando, FL, died December 5, 2011, in the Hospice Unit of Citrus Memorial Hospital. Jim was born October 1, 1934, to the late Lyman and Martha Bannister in Elmira, NY. He retired from the Town of Dix, NY, as the Superintendent of Highways with 38 years of service.
He was a member of Calvary Chapel of Inverness; past officer of the Hernando Civic Association; member of Schuyler County Highway Superintendent's Association; past president of New York State Highway Superintendent's Association; and former member of Sullivan Trail Council of Boy Scouts.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Judith Koch Bannister; three sons, Douglas Bannister, Hickory, NC, Bill Bannister, New Hampshire, and Donald Landmesser, Montour Falls, NY; two daughters, Eileen (Jerry) Pompilio, Inverness, FL, and Rose (Bruce) Bulau, Loganville, GA; four brothers, Richard (Norma) Bannister, Montour Falls, NY, Robert (Shirley) Bannister, Port Byron, NY, Kenneth (Karen) Bannister, Gresham Falls, OR, and David (Dorothy) Bannister, Elmira, NY; his sister, Pat (Tony) Fanchullio, Beaumont, CA, sister-in-law, Helen Bannister, Odessa, NY; nine grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. A brother, Stanley Bannister, predeceased him.
The family will receive friends at Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, Montour Falls, NY, Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 10 to 11 AM with the funeral service to immediately follow.
