Obituary of Marjorie Wilhelm
Marjorie Ruth (Thomason) Wilhelm of Watkins Glen, NY made her transition from this life to her heavenly home on September 4, 2012-5 days shy of her 88th birthday.
Marge was born on September 9, 1924 in Elmira to the late William and Rhoda (Lawes) Thomason. She graduated from Southside High School in 1941. Marjorie married Richard C Wilhelm on April 15, 1944. He preceded her in death June 4, 2002. She was predeceased by siblings: Donald Thomason, Dorothy Smykowski, Peggy (Lillian) Januzzi, Harold Thomason and Helen Anstee.
She is survived by daughters: Linda of San Diego, CA, Annette (Bill) Martin of Burdett, Brenda (Jack) Gill of Montour Falls, NY special angel Angie (John) Fratarcangelo, special sister-in-law Clara English of Painted Post, step grandchildren and great grandchildren, many loving friends, nieces & nephews. Special friends include Beth & Gary Ennis, Helen Wilhelm, Ann Hull, Barbara Bell, Nan Letteer and her cat, Babe.
Marjorie began her career at William's Produce in Elmira. She worked in the Purchasing Department of Carl L Norden Inc., Bombsight Division in Southside and in the office of The Gorton Coy and Mercury Aircraft.
She worked in the Schuyler County Assessment Department when it was first created in 1961, then as Executive Secretary of Civil Service. In 1971 Marjorie was appointed the first Clerk of the Schuyler County Legislature (formerly known as the Board of Supervisors). She and a friend, Carol Lindsay, created the first County Flag which is now displayed in the Schuyler County Historical Society. She retired in December 1983 after 22 years with the County of Schuyler.
Marge was a fine friend, a terrific mother, instilling strength and fortitude in her daughters by being a role model and a remarkable woman.
She is a 60+ year member of the Order of Easter Star (Past Matron of Tyrone Chapter #612), past member of the Crystal Valley Grange, Watkins Glen Business & Professional Women, Schuyler Ambulance, Schuyler Hospital Auxiliary, Schuyler County Historical Society, and RSVP. She proudly joined the First Presbyterian Church of Watkins Glen in May 2010 where she cherished their welcoming spirit and useful headsets to hear Rev Bev's sermon.
Committal Services are being held at the convenience of the family at Seaman's Cemetery in Savona, NY. Friends and family are invited to share their memories of Marge's life at a Memorial Service at the First Presbyterian Church in Watkins Glen, NY on September 13, 2012 at 11:00 AM.
