Obituary of Gary F. Chapin

Gary Francis Chapin, 73, of Bentley Creek, PA, passed away on September 30, 2024 at his home.

He was born in Elmira, NY on April 9, 1951, the son of the late George and Genevieve (Binney) Chapin. Gary graduated from Southside High School in Elmira in 1969. He was a machinist with Hardinge Brothers for over 40 years.

Gary was a ham radio operator, call sign KA2DNV. He was active in the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 676. Gary participated in Civil War reenactments and was the Armorer for Catlin Camp #341, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. He also enjoyed camping with his friends.

Gary is survived by two daughters, Patricia Price and Teresa Drucker of Bloomsburg, PA; one son, Bill Chapin and his wife Kimberley (Watts) Chapin of Choctaw, OK; six grandchildren, Rebecca Drucker, Sarah Drucker, Jylian Bohner, Hunter Price, Reid Price and Darin Chapin. He was predeceased by his wives, Diane (Hill) Chapin, Melody (Douglas) Chapin; longtime companion, Marie Decker; sister, Katherine Chapin; and grandson, Dylan Chapin.

A Graveside service will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024 at 11:00 am at Maple Grove Cemetery, 715 W. Broad St., Horseheads, NY. Contributions may be made in Gary's memory to Odessa American Legion Post 676, or Catlin Camp #341, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, P.O. Box 137, Odessa, NY 14869.
