Obituary of Melvin Matheney

Matheney, Melvin W. "Pete" Montour Falls: Age 88, passed away at Seneca View Nursing facility on Friday morning, November 1, 2013. Melvin was born July 22, 1925, a son of Herman and Nerva Mae Christley (Morris) Matheney. He is predeceased by his son, James Robert "Bobbie" Matheney Pete is survived by his wife, Virgie L. (Baumgartner) Matheney; his children, Donna & Richard Pettit of Paso Robles, CA, Pamela & David Vandermark of Seneca Falls, NY; step children, Joan Hatala of Orange, CA, Kathy & Mike Adam of Horseheads, NY and Steven & Christine Craven of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren, Jason, Ty, Brittany, Cody, Tory, Donya and Dale, 3 great grandchildren; sisters, Cathryn Magnan, June Williams and Alyce Blanks; special cousin, Reba (Bill) Rapp; half-sisters, Cathy (Richard) Harris, Edith Hackworh, Sarah (James) Gabbert, Wanetta Lee, Anabelle Morgan and half-brother, James (Susan) Matheney; brothers & sisters in-in-law, Robert (Betty) Baumgartner, Jack (June) Baumgartner, Mildred Austin and Ida(Philip) Beard; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Pete served his country honorably in the US Navy. He worked for the Ithaca City School District for many years. He loved farming and cutting firewood as a side business. Family and Friends are invited to Vedder & Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee Street, Montour Falls, on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place in South Hill Cemetery, Ithaca, NY.
