Condolences
I saw this as well today. I had been worried about why I had not seen Mr. Johnson for quite a while.
I met him as well at work on the Springfield side of things. I remember he and his partner used to ride the train together. He was always a joy and always had a smile for us. He was a wonderful man and we will all miss him.
A co-worker just shared this with me today.
I first met him as a Conductor for Amtrak. Mr. Johnson would ride my train from Springfield to St Louis for his VA appointments. Somedays I would catch him when he was on his way to St Louis and other days when he was on his way back to Springfield.
After I moved to the ticket office I would again seen him regularly when he would come into St Louis.
I was a 1st Infantry Division Vet, and he being a 3rd ID Vet would always greet me with "Rock of the Marne" to which I would respond "Duty First."
He was always a pleasure to see. He will be missed.
I met Jim in 2022 when I found his cat. Pearl had escaped his apartment and was living in a garage near the art association a few doors up and across the street. She was thin, but friendly and I was able to crate her and take her to the vet to see if I could find her owner.
They contacted Jim and he contacted me. He asked that I keep Pearl because he had his plate full with caring for himself and Mivuet. I was happy to take Pearl in and he asked only to be able to visit her on occasion. Over the next 2 years we would meet for dinner every month or two and he joined my wife and I and a large group of friends for a Friendsgiving celebration in '22 and '23.
He would come watch my bocce ball team play when he could. We never talked about anything too serious, so I didn't know him well, but I enjoyed his company. Pearl has adapted well is is a very friendly and loving cat and I know that is Jim's influence. She is a constant reminder of him.
I'll miss meeting him for dinners and having a beer between bocce rounds.
I hope his family know how much he cared about them.
We were neighbors and friends and being his security and a former REMT i was called over to help Mirvet and at times The colonel
would call me over for a dinner. He has my respect and love through eternity.and we shout to each other
AIRBORNE...HOW FAR...ALL THE WAY
I am so sorry to hear about Jim! He was a neighbor all of my childhood and become a friend as well! He will be missed by many and was loved by all who met him! My condolences to all of you!
Our condolences go out to the family of James "Jimmy" Johnson. Jimmy was a neighbor of ours growing up and our family lived in the same house he did after their family moved down the road. Jim was always a soft-spoken, polite, and intelligent young man. I haven't seen Jim since I graduated from OMCS in 1970, but am still saddened by his passing. As I recall, he was a talented musician...he played the slide trombone for Mr. Browns band. He and I worked together for a short time during one summer putting in hay around Catharine and he was a hard worker. Thank you, Jim, for your years of service. I know you'll be missed by many. Rest in peace, old neighbor. Mike Goodwin and Family
