Thomas Doolittle

Obituary of Thomas C. Doolittle

Thomas C. Doolittle, age 67, of Elmira, NY passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and loved ones on Monday, October 16th, 2023, at St. Joseph's Skilled Nursing Facility.

Thomas was born in Elmira, NY on May 9th, 1956, to the late Clifford and Virginia (O’Daniels) Doolittle.  Tom worked as a mechanic for VanSkiver’s Motors for most of his career.  Tom enjoyed listening and dancing to good old Rock and Roll music being played by a live band every chance he got.  Tom was very skilled in home improvement and maintenance.  He was always making the house a better home for his family. Tom’s auto mechanic skills were put to good use by repairing and replacing the brakes (and anything else that went wrong) on the family’s vehicles. Above all, Tom enjoyed adventures with his kids from Keuka Lake days and camping when they were young to the later years simply grabbing a hardy meal and catching a show together. Tom was loyal, had a kind and quiet soul, loved animals, and never complained.

Along with Tom's parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Debbie (Doolittle) Rice, brother, Gary Doolittle, Stepbrothers, David Buchanan, and Jeffrey Buchanan. Tom is survived by his first wife, Sarah Kim Doolittle, and their children, Joshua Doolittle of Orlando, FL, and, Erica (Matt) Edminster, and granddaughter, Kyra Edminster, all of Syracuse, NY, sister, Terry (Thomas) Vine of Horseheads, NY, step-mother Mary Doolittle, of Deltona, FL, step brothers Michael Buchanan of Odessa, NY, Christopher Buchanan of Montour Falls, NY, and Nathan Buchanan of Deltona, FL, along with many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Tom is also survived by his closest companion, and ex-wife, Debra (Doolittle) Kittle, of Elmira Heights, NY, along with her children, Michelle (Rodney) McClelland, of Horseheads, NY, Kammie Schlesselman, of Buffalo, NY, and Carl Lewis Jr., of Elmira Heights, NY. Tom also acquired six loving bonus grandchildren that he cared for and enjoyed spending time with over the years: Zachary, Zoey, Sadie, Sophie, Benjamin, and Lillian.

A private service will be held by the family. Memorial donations may be made in Tom's memory to the 'Huntington's Disease Society of America (HDSA), or to your local SPCA."
