Obituary of Ronald T. Riley

Ronald T. Riley, age 80, of Montour Falls, NY, went home peacefully to be with our Lord on September 20, 2023 at Elcor Rehab Facility, surrounded by the love of family and friends. Ron was born in Montour Falls, NY on January 8, 1943 to Jack and Rose (Bartone) Riley.  Ron graduated from OMCS in 1961 and Broome Technical College in 1963. He married Mary Fedkiw on October 7, 1967 at St. Charles Borromeo in Elmira Heights, NY.

Ron's career in the Fire Industry began at American LaFrance in Elmira, NY and his love for that industry continued even after he and his family moved to Miami, FL. where he worked in sales for Mars Signal Light, SEFAC and Stertil Koni. Two of Ron's favorite things about his career were the opportunity to travel around the US as well as overseas and making life-long friendships along the way. Ron had a wonderful sense of humor, a zest for life and a genuine love for people. Whenever you saw him, he was always smiling, laughing or joking.

Ron was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was always ready to pack a bag with Mary and head out to visit their grandchildren in Ukraine, Germany, Switzerland or wherever else they might be. Ron was a life long active member of Miami Elks Lodge 948 which he dearly loved and also a member of the Montour Falls Moose #426.

After 38 years in Miami, they retired to Montour Falls in 2017. At their ripe old age, their son Todd encouraged them to open a little Ukrainian restaurant in Watkins Glen called Babcha's Pierogies. They ran their little shop for 5 successful seasons where Ron thoroughly enjoyed their customers and treated each one as if they were old friends.

Ron was predeceased by his mother, Rose Bartone Riley in 1990 and his father, Jack Riley in 2011.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary; their daughter, Elizabeth (Danyo) Kulchyckyj of Philadelphia; sons, David (Jennifer) Riley of Sevierville, TN and Todd Riley of Miami Beach; six grandchildren: Gregory, Vika and Lukash Kulchyckyj, Taylor and Cristina Riley, Brooke (Garrett) Fowler; two great grandchildren: Landon and Memphis Fowler; brother Timothy (Deb) Riley of Montour Falls; and by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, September 29, 2023 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Vedder-Scott & Zinger Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls, NY. Ron's service will follow at 7:00 pm. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 11:00 am at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1200 Walnut St. in Elmira, NY (please use Bancroft Rd. Entrance). A Celebration of Life reception for Ron will be held at 1:00 pm at The Mechanics Club, 237 W. Main St. in Montour Falls, NY following the burial.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Ron's memory for the church roof repair fund to: First Baptist Church of Montour Falls, PO Box 578, Montour Falls, NY 14865.
