Obituary of Steve Kenyon

Steve took the hand of his Savior and went to his eternal home on Sunday, December 30 while at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY, with his loving family at his side, after a valiant fight with leukemia. He was born on April 3, 1949, the son of Charles and Doris L. Kenyon. Steve resided at 428 East Main Street in Montour Falls, NY for his entire life, including the past 42 ½ years with his loving wife, Sharon Letteer Kenyon, who survives him. He graduated from Odessa-Montour School in 1967 and the Wellsville Vocational Division of Alfred State College in 1969. He was self-employed as a carpenter for 17 years. Steve retired from the Southport Correction Facility in July, 2011, where he worked as an instructor then a carpenter for almost 25 years. He was a former trustee for the Village of Montour Falls, and a former steward and officer in CSEA Local 156. He was also a long time member of the Mechanics Club in Montour Falls. Steve was pre-deceased by his father, Charles, in 1968, his father-in-law Tom Letteer, Sr. and mother-in-law Helen Letteer. In addition to his wife, Sharon, Steve is survived by his mother, Doris, of Painted Post (formerly Ovid) and his very best friend, Buddy, a Springer Spaniel. He has four sisters, Brenda (Dale) Nichols of Florida, Sharon (Gerry) Wilcove of Tennessee, Nancy (Ed) Silva of North Carolina and Linda Kenyon of Corning, as well as his brother-in-law Tom Letteer, Jr. and wife Nancy of Odessa. Also surviving him are nieces and nephews Skip, Melissa, Keny, Jennifer, Erin and Daphne and their spouses and children, as well as Maureen and Michelle (Eddie) and their children. Steve also leaves behind several maternal cousins, as well as a host of "cousins-in-law" and caring friends and classmates, who have "been there" for both Steve and Sharon, providing prayer, fellowship and support. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee Street in Montour Falls on Monday, January 7, 2013 from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 PM. A memorial service and celebration of his life will follow, led by Pastor Richard Hack of Lighthouse Baptist Church, Horseheads, NY. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Odessa. Those who wish may remember Steve with donations in his memory to the Humane Society of Schuyler County, PO Box 427, Montour Falls, NY. If you wish, you may light a candle at www.vedderandscottfuneralhome.com Sharon and the family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to Dr. O'Brien, and all of the wonderful doctors and nurses in the Oncology Unit at Guthrie Clinic and Robert Packer Hospital for their care and friendship. He was an upbeat, happy and optimistic patient, and he appreciated not only their professional help and support, but also the friendly conversations and discussions they enjoyed. Also, many thanks to the doctors and nurses of the transplant team at Strong Memorial Hospital, and especially to the medical staff of the ICU unit who tried so hard to help Steve. They provided compassionate advice, comfort and prayer to Sharon, Steve's sister Linda and brother-in-law Tom as they joined Steve on his final walk.
