Louis Sgrecci

Obituary of Louis Sgrecci

Louis Sgrecci II, 93, of Watkins Glen, like two heroes from his youth – Gene Autry and Roy Rogers – rode off into his final sunset on Monday, March 13, 2023, surrounded by family. Louie, known as Lou, The Camel, The Greek, and Dudey spent most of his life in Schuyler County. He was born in Beaver Dams on November 9, 1929, the son of Louis and Alma Arcangeli Sgrecci. He is predeceased by his Italian parents; his wife JoAnn Coykendall Sgrecci; sisters Mary Davis, Paula Bossard, and Irene Pellacore. He is survived by: His daughters: LuAnn (Jim) O'Connell of Milton, PA, and Jill Sgrecci (Paul Wheeler); son Dana (Gail) Sgrecci; nine grandchildren: Tabitha (Adam), Grace (Brian), Joe, Mary, and Joyce O'Connell; and Nick, Brock, Camille and Max Sgrecci; two step-grandchildren: Brad and Kristin Wheeler; one brand new great granddaughter Evelyn; sister, Elsie Bossard and brother, Dave (Della) Andretti; and many nieces and nephews. Louis retired as a machinist from Shepard Niles Crane and Hoist and was a WWII U.S. Marine veteran. He was a lifetime member of the Montour Falls Mechanics Club and a long-time member of the Montour Falls Moose Club where he had many friends with whom he enjoyed socializing. Louie really enjoyed watching old westerns and cowboy movies, mysteries and war documentaries, and reading books -- anything to do with trains or cowboys. He liked anything mechanical, especially old tractors and enjoyed working on his son's dairy farm. There will be a private family burial and a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Montour Falls Moose #426, 2096 Co. Rd. 14, Montour Falls, NY 14865 or the Schuyler County Ambulance, 909 South Decatur Street, Watkins Glen, NY 14891.
