Obituary of Clinton S. Smith

Clinton S. Smith, Jr., 91, of Hornby, NY; formerly of Montour Falls, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2023. He was born in Corning, NY on December 20, 1931, the son of Clinton S. Smith, Sr. and Jennie Rose Hammond. He was married September 1, 1950 in Monterey, New York. He was a laborer for Ingersol Rand of Painted Post for 20 years. He also loved playing his guitar, singing at family functions, and playing at his church for his church family. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He spent his time in Germany as C Company Mess Sergeant. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Betty, in 2014 and by many sisters and one brother. He is survived by, and truly loved, his adopted son, Doc Mayo, of Alpine, and nieces and nephews: Norma (Tim) Cummings of Montour Falls; Cindy (Lester) Fuller of Montour Falls and Fillmore, NY; David (Diane) O'Bryan of Montour Falls; Lillian (James) Buckley of Beaver Dams; Caroline (Scott) McIlwain of Beaver Dams; and Jesse O'Bryan of Beaver Dams; great nieces: Jessica (Hector) Gonzales of Albermale, NC and Jennie (Benny) Fields of Lincolnton, NC. A funeral service for Clinton will be held at the Odessa Wesleyan Church, 304 Church Street, Odessa, NY, on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at 11:00 AM, followed by burial in Oldfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Odessa Wesleyan Church.
