Obituary of Suzanne Davies-Morton
Suzanne Davies-Morton of Watkins Glen, NY died on January 2, 2023 after a private battle with cancer. She was at home in the care of her husband, the love of her life, Christopher A. Morton Sr. Suzanne was born on May 5, 1958 the daughter of Winfred and Shirley Davies and raised in Elmira, NY. She graduated from Southside High School in 1976. She spent several years away from home, returning to the area and meeting her husband in 1983. Chris proposed on Valentine's day 1986, and the pair eloped in the living room of a local judge in July of the same year. To this day, her husband describes her as a true gift from God.
Sue had two children, Sara and Christopher "Alex". She was a devoted, passionate, active and loving mother; and in recent years a fun, loving, and caring grandmother to her two grandsons Kylo and Jasper. She taught her children, and her grandchildren, to care about the world around them, to laugh especially when the world seems dark, to approach each day with passion and tenacity, and gave them each her infamous attitude. Her laugh brought joy to her family, friends, and loved ones.
In addition to her family, Sue leaves a legacy of service to her community through her work with children, from teenage drug counseling to working with children in foster care and adoption. Sue poured her heart into her work and tried to make the world better, one life at a time. When not with her family or working, she was giving of herself in other ways. In her last days, dozens of people came to see her who described her as being the anchor in their lives when they could not find a light in chaotic times. Perhaps she was a lighthouse rather than an anchor for those she loved.
Suzanne is survived by her husband of 36 years, Christopher A. Morton; daughter, Sara A. Morton, Esq., grandson, Jasper, son, Christopher A. W. Morton Jr., grandson, Kylo, granddaughter in spirit, Marley; her centenarian mother Shirley Porter (ne Rockwell); nephews, D'Andre Webb, Zachery Morton and Andrew Morton; niece, Haleigh; and by several grandnephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her father, Winfred; and sister, Stephanie Webb.
Sue leaves a legacy of loving a good time, usually on a beach in warm weather -- so to honor her spirit of compassion, intensity, love, service, laughter, and fun -- a celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the The Tiki Bar on Seneca Lake.
