Obituary of Elizabeth A. Matwiejow
Elizabeth (Betty) Matwiejow, 80, of Watkins Glen, NY, passed away in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Betty was born in Montour Falls, NY on February 16, 1942, the daughter of Earl and Grace Ameigh. She proudly shared the same birthday as her mother.
Betty lived a gracious and humble life, giving selflessly and asking for nothing in return. She believed in lifting others up whether they were her children or the children who came to her daycare, tirelessly guiding and supporting others through many years. Betty derived great joy from gardening and canning, ensuring her family was well fed and cared for as evidenced by a fully stocked canning room and freezers. She unconditionally loved all of her children and nurtured them in the same manner that she cared for her gardens while supporting them all to follow their own paths. There could be no greater love than hers and as such, she was easy to love. Her message to others was to take in the beauty around you and love each other by rising above differences of opinion.
She is survived by her daughters, Michelle Johns, Anne (Richard) Cleveland and Lisa Matwiejow; sons, Richard (Sharon) Matwiejow and Anthony Matwiejow (Amy Bingham); grandchildren, David Matwiejow, Bradley Johns, Jennifer and Kyle Smith, R.J., Chad and Ashley Matwiejow; eight great grandchildren; brothers, Robert (Donna) Ameigh and David (Estella) Ameigh of Dundee, NY; and special friend Gail Andrews of Bath, NY. Betty was predeceased by her parents and her husband of 60 years Joe Matwiejow.
A private burial will be held in spring in the Rock Stream Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, Betty's wish is that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
