Obituary of Leona D. Sandusky
Leona (Davis) Sandusky, 90, of Montour Falls, NY, entered unto rest on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at home. She was born in Montour Falls, NY on October 7, 1932, the daughter of the late Ernest and Bernice Davis. Leona graduated from Watkins Glen High School with the Class of 1951.
Leona worked at Borg Warner in Ithaca as an assembler and was a prep cook at Blue Ribbon Diner in Montour Falls for several years. Leona loved bowling, quilting, reading and her church, New Hope Baptist Church in Millport. She loved the big family parties with her children and grandchildren. She loved playing cards and country music. She was an avid Mets fan and looked forward to the baseball season every year. Leona donated to the paralyzed veterans for 14 years.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Sandusky; son, Elvin West; brothers, Doyle, Levi and Glen Davis; and sisters, Frances Forbes, Agnes Wyre, Ruth Sawyer and Dorothy DeGraw.
Leona is survived by four daughters, Judy West Ebert of Corning, Virginia West (Jeff Jay) of North Rose, Vicky West LaVee (Timothy) of Dansville, and Mary West Petty (Richard) of Marion; two sons, William West (Terisita) of Dandridge, TN and James West (Mistie) of Chittenango, NY; one sister, Ellen Misner of Montour Falls, NY; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and by many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her cat, Levi, her companion for the last 13 years.
Leona's family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the staff and residents at Catharine Court, Care First Hospice and New Hope Baptist Church for the care and compassion shown to their mother throughout her illness.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, November 5, 2022 from 12:00 to 1:00 pm at New Hope Baptist Church, 5528 State St., Millport, NY. Her memorial service will follow at 1:00 pm at the church. Burial will be in Montour Cemetery.
