Obituary of Lucille G. Hessling

Lucille "Lue" Hessling, age 90, of Montour Falls departed this world on September 2, 2022 at home surrounded by her family. Born September 26, 1931 in Middletown, NY she was the daughter of Mable and Michael Kindle. A 72 year resident of Montour, she arrived in 1950 with her husband Robert, who came to work on the town's flood control project. While raising her three children, Lue worked for Fiorlat Dairy in Watkins Glen. Later she moved to Stewart P Wilson Oil in Montour where she did book keeping, payroll, and greeted customers at the front desk. Retiring at 79, her coworkers had become her second family and remained in close contact. An advocate of community service, Lue was active over many years with PTA, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, 4H and Guiding Eyes for the Blind, to mention a few. Lucille is survived by daughters Gayle Spruch (Art), Chatham, MA and Jennifer Yarbrough (Garland Yarbrough, Jr. "G", deceased), Soddy Daisy, TN; son Michael (Barbara Johnson), Waterford, CT; grandchildren, spouses/significant others and great grandchildren: Jennifer Ann Leger (Ryan, Elsa, Rowan), Andrea Spruch, Eric Yarbrough (Jennifer Marie, Robert, Rachel), Brian Yarbrough (Shelly Thompson), Robert Yarbrough (Jennifer Lee, Charlotte, Violet Lucille), Samantha Hessling (Bobbi, Zachary), Megan Hessling, Ryan Hessling. She is also survived by brother D. Scott Kindle, Evans, WA. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert G Hessling, sisters Pat Daily of Otisville, NY, Frances Moore of Montgomery, NY, Donna Wayland of Montour Falls and Sharon Post of Burdett; two brothers, Michael and James Kindle of Middletown, NY. In addition to her work and community activities, Lue was an avid crafter. She learned stained glass and ceramic techniques, fiber arts, knitting and crochet. Self taught, she made unique quilts for each of her three children, eight grandchildren, and seven "GG's". The rock of her immediate and extended family, Mom/Lue will be missed greatly. As per her wishes, no formal services will be held. A celebration of her long and well-lived life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Schuyler County Historical Society, the Humane Society of Schuyler County, or other local organization of your choice.
