Obituary of Lillian L. Payne

Lillian Louise (McCarty) Payne of Montour Falls, passed away on Sunday, August 14th, 2022 at Schuyler Hospital in Montour Falls. Lillian was born in Montour Falls, NY on October 17th, 1936, the daughter of the late Almon S. and Dorothy (Updike) McCarty. She graduated from Watkins Glen High School and attended Jean Summers Business School. She worked as a bookkeeper for Polly-O Dairy, was the Montour Falls Village Clerk, and an Administrative Assistant for Odessa-Montour Central School until her retirement in 1994. She was a member of the Red Hatter Club, T.O.P.S., the National Campers and Hikers Association-Schuylarks, and was a Cub Scout Den Mother. She enjoyed camping, playing cards, swimming, square dancing, traveling and spending time with her friends and family. Lillian is survived by her husband of 66 years, Sylvester William Payne; daughter, Tammy Payne and and her wife Mary (Sharp) Payne of Groveland, FL; sons, Charles Payne of Wood River, Illinois and William Payne of Montour Falls, NY; brother, Almon M. McCarty and wife, Patty (Harrington) McCarty and their children and grandchildren. Special friends, Ruthie Hayes and family, Cindy Bacon, Anthony Ellington, Pamela Morris, and her caregiver, Pam Parker. Friends and family may call from 5pm to 7pm on Friday, August 19th, 2022 at Vedder-Scott & Zinger Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls, NY. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, August 20th, 2022 at 2pm at the Montour Falls United Methodist Church, 128 Owego St., Montour Falls with Rev. Mike Kelly officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lillian’s memory to the Dementia Society of America or the Montour Falls United Methodist Church.
