Obituary of Alvin J. White

Alvin J. White, 71, of Burdett, passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 in Buffalo, NY. Al was born in Montour Falls, NY on August 10, 1950, the son of Herbert and Mabel White. Al graduated from Odessa-Montour Central School and also studied at SUNY Cortland. Al was an Aircraft Senior Quality Control Engineer and Manager with Schweizer Aircraft, Sikorsky Aircraft and Therm Incorporated for 45 years, retiring in 2015. Upon his retirement, he was elected to Supervisor of the Town of Hector in 2016. He was a native of Burdett, NY, and his family has lived in the area for 9 generations. For 40 years, Al has served his community. He was a retired volunteer firefighter for the Burdett Fire Department and retired Advanced EMT for Schuyler County Ambulance Core. He served on the Hector Town Board as a council person since 1998, was Vice Chairman for the Schuyler County Republican Committee and was on the Board of Directors for SCOPED. He was Chairman of the Schuyler County Council of Government and past little league coach. He loved golfing, watching his grandsons play sports and spending time with his family. Al is survived by his wife of 50 years, Anita (McFall) White; two daughters, Cassandra (Joe) Pitcher of Ontario, NY and Melanie (Matt) Walters of Burdett; one sister, Charlotte Dickens of Burdett; and five grandchildren, Cody Pitcher, Zachary Pitcher, Joshua Pitcher, Brett Walters and Alex Walters. He was predeceased by his parents, and two brothers, Robert White and Andrew White. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, March 4, 2022 from 4-7 pm at Vedder-Scott & Zinger Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St. Montour Falls. His funeral will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will be in Union Cemetery of Hector.
