Obituary of John C. Wood

John C. Wood, 83, of Valois, passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 in Montour Falls. He was born on December 8, 1934 in Liberty, PA, the son of the late Lawrence E. and Helen L. (Warrick) Wood. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Jane (Abbey) Wood; four daughters, Deborah Fowler of Kansas, Tammy (Tim) Schiewe of Texas, Suzanne (Mark) Peterle of Kansas, and Amy (Tony) Ray of California; two sons, James (Dianne) Wood of Hector, Timothy (Trina) Wood of Burdett; stepsons, Larry Grant of Campbell, Bill (Kathy) Grant of Burdett, and Christopher (Shana) Grant of Himrod; two sisters, Audrey Fleegle of Texas, and Sally (James) Steffen of Virginia; two brothers, David (Betty) Wood of Binghamton, and Floyd (Judy) Wood of Pennsylvania; foster brother, Raymond (Sandra) Anderson; 30 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Lewis (Luper) Wood, Richard (Dick) Wood, and Roger Wood; brother-in-law, Donald Fleegle; and sister-in-law, Janet Wood. John served with the US Army in 1957 and retired from Willard State Hospital in 1989 after 37 years. John and Jane have owned and operated several businesses over the years including Wood's Tree Service, trash removal service, coal yard business, Wood's Last Stand, and deer processing. Current businesses include B&W Logging and J&J Redemption Center. You could find John stripping wire and always up for a conversation at the redemption center. He will be greatly missed by many, especially by his grandson, Jonathan, who frequently joined him for lunch and was always there to help out when needed. John enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family sharing his knowledge and traditions that will be carried on for years to come. Honoring John's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral. A private graveside service will be held in Seneca Union Cemetery in Valois at a later date. Contributions may be made in his memory to the Valois Logan Hector Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.
